Types of Balloons & Their Differences!

It is helpful to understand the differences in balloons available today so that you can choose the right type for your event or party. Balloons make a great marketing giveaway. These balloons are attractive, easy to see, and loved by both children and adults.

It is important to describe the characteristics of each type of balloon to explain the differences between the best. The three main types of party balloons that you can choose from are latex, mylar, and cloudbuster.

Three Main Types Of Balloons

Latex Balloons

Latex balloons are the most popular type of balloon. These balloons can be customized with screen printing your logo, text, or artwork. These balloons are available in sizes ranging from 9 to 18 inches. The 11 inches personalized latex balloon is the most popular, followed by the 9 inches. Latex balloons generally take helium well. They can float for anywhere between 10 to 14 hours.

However, float time is affected by many factors. These include how custom latex balloons were sealed or how much helium was used. It would be best if you considered the cost when purchasing latex balloons. The smaller the balloon, the more helium you'll need.

Latex balloons can use without helium. Balloon accessories are trendy because they don't require you to rent or purchase helium tanks. This can help you save money. An air inflator, foot pump, or hand inflator can fill latex balloons with regular air. The balloon cups can tie onto a stick. Below are a few pictures that show how latex balloons can tie to a balloon cup or stick.

A universal valve can be used for any imprinted latex balloons. This valve can only be used for latex balloons and makes it much easier to inflate them. The balloon will inflate quickly if you attach it to the nozzle. These valves are not recommended for balloons because they can reduce the float time slightly.

Mylar (or Foil!) Balloons

Mylar balloons can be more expensive than latex balloons. However, there are good reasons. These balloons are of higher quality and have a metallic appearance and feel. They also have larger imprint areas and longer float times. A brightly colored, shiny, floating mylar balloon is the best way to grab attention.

There is a difference between latex balloons and mylar balloons

Mylar balloons (sometimes also known as foil balloons) cannot be used with balloon cups or sticks. Here is an example of what happens if you use mylar balloons with balloon cups or sticks. Foil balloons are not as flexible and stretchy as latex balloons. They don't stick well to the balloon cups, and the result is a partially-flopped balloon. Mylar balloons can be customized to look best when filled with helium gas, tied with string, and then inflated.

When shopping for mylar balloons, be careful. Low-quality, cheap mylar balloons may not be the best choice. They will have short float times, pin-holes that allow air to escape, and high defects levels. This defeats the whole purpose of customizing foil balloons.

Look for balloons that have self-sealing valves when shopping for mylar balloons. This is a very convenient feature. Anagram foil balloons are made from an xlite material, which gives them a 5 to 7 day float time. Mylar balloons use 25% less helium per ball, which means you can save tons of helium. This allows you to fill 30% more balloons into a helium tank. This, in turn, will save you around 22% on your helium cost.

You can personalize mylar balloons in four different shapes: square, heart, star, or square. Our square foil balloons are 22 inches in diameter, and the first three shapes are 18 inches. All three shapes come in 18" balloons, while our square foil balloons measure 22".

Cloudbuster Balloons

Finally, there are our cloudbuster balloons. Also known as chloroprene or chloroprene. These balloons are made from super-high quality latex, which repels ultraviolet rays and can be up to 10x stronger than regular latex balloons. The float time can vary depending on how giant the cloudbuster balloons are.

Here is, however, a guideline to the float times for our cloudbuster balloons.

  • 4 to 5 Days approx.
  • 5.5 feet - 7 to 10 days approx.
  • 8 feet - 18-21 days approx.

The Cloudbuster balloons are strong enough to be used outdoors and inflate almost perfectly. Although they are not customizable, a brightly colored, high-flying cloudbuster balloon can be used to mark your business's location or event from far away. Our colorful display pennants will make your setup even more appealing. Cloudbuster balloons can also be purchased with our kits, which include 100 feet of display pennants and clear instructions.
